National Press Club to Host Political Party Discussion Evenings ahead of Local Government Elections

The National Press Club is pleased to announce a series of discussion evenings with political parties as we approach the local government elections. These sessions will provide a platform for our members and other journalists to engage with the parties, scrutinize their policies and hold them accountable. The Discussion Evenings will be aligned with the National Press Club’s facilitation fees.

As a vital part of our democracy, the media plays a crucial role in making leaders accessible to the public. These discussion evenings will enable our members to challenge assumptions, ask tough questions and provide citizens with valuable insights into the parties’ plans and policies.
The sessions will be facilitated by the National Press Club, ensuring a robust and informative exchange.

Political parties wishing to participate can contact our office via email at secretariat@nationalpressclub.co.za or via mobile: +27 72 984 4673.

We look forward to hosting these important discussions and providing our members and the wider media industry with the opportunity to engage with the parties.

The schedule and details of the upcoming events will be shared with our members and other media representatives in due course.

The National Press Club Announces New Executive Committee

The National Press (NPC) is proud to announce its new executive committee with senior freelance financial journalist Antoinette Slabbert as its chairperson and Maroela Media journalist Pieter Cloete as her deputy.

The new leadership, which was elected at its recent Annual General Meeting, aims to propel the NPC to greater heights of organisational growth, promotion of media freedom and advocating for plurality of voices.

Research and communications associate at the French Institute of South Africa Lali van Zuydam has retained her portfolio as the club’s treasurer. Gautrain Management Agency’s senior executive: communication and marketing, Albi Modise takes over the portfolio of public relations.

“The National Press Club continues to grow in leaps and bounds, with our finances having stabilised since Covid, which is much more than a mark of institutional strength; it is the engine of its capacity to envision and enact a better future for media. This prudent fiscal management helps us create safe spaces for conversations about media while also asserting our role as a bulwark for media independence and the intersession between media and public relations,” Slabbert said.

The following elected executive committee members join the office bearers:

Ananias Ndlovu, Naledi News editor

Mosidi Mokgele, PR and marketing consultant, Essence Consulting

Elizabeth Botha, freelance journalist

Dineo Horner, (CPRP) Unisa: administrator (research, marketing and communication)

William Baloyi, chief director: media engagement, GCIS

Congress Mahlangu, independent media and communication specialist.

The team is supported by Ncobile Mahlangu as the Club secretariat.

At the same time, the new leadership, through the newly elected Chairperson Antoinette Slabbert, also congratulated its executive member, Mr. William Baloyi, on his recent appointment as a deputy government spokesperson.

“Mr. Baloyi brings with him wealth of experience as a seasoned, skilful, and accessible communicator. His passion and deep knowledge of the craft will stand him in good stead as he seeks to ensure seamless flow of information between government and the citizenry, with the media central to that process,’ concluded Slabbert.
