National Press Club membership fees for 2024 have been increased by 10% except for the student membership fees which remains the same. The NPC have not increased its membership fees over the past few years since 2016.
Membership is open to anyone over the age of 18 years and is divided into the following categories:
Full Members
Members who are full-time journalists and are employed by any lawful news organisation or freelance journalists who derive at least 75% of their income from performing journalism functions, and whose applications are approved by the committee. New members pay a once off R200 joining fee. Annual membership fees are: R440 a year for Full Members.
Associate Members
Members who are in professions allied to journalism, either as communicators, public relation officers or marketing specialists and whose applications must be approved by the committee. New members pay a once off R200 joining fee. Annual membership fees are: R660 a year for Associate Members.
Corporate Membership
Organisations can join the National Press Club as entities, rather than individuals. There are four (4) corporate membership categories depending on the size or number of members an organisation would want to subscribe for. Membership fees for this corporate categories are as follows:
Corporate Bronze: One to ten (1-10) employees/ members – R6 655 per year, Corporate Silver: Eleven to twenty (11 – 20) employees/ members – R12 100 per year, Corporate Gold: Twenty-one to forty (21 – 40) employees/ members – R24 200 per year and Corporate Platinum: Forty-one plus (41+) employees/ members – R50 000 per year.
Student Members
Full-time journalism students in their second or third year of study, and third year public relations students employed in a related field, and whose applications are approved by the committee. Student membership is only valid for one year unless the exco approves that student member’s membership be extended for another year but not for more than two (2) years. New members pay a once off R200 joining fee. Annual membership fees are R200 a year for Student Members.
Retired
Former full-time journalists and / or associate members and / or freelance journalists who have retired, and who are not employed full-time in any other profession or occupation. Their membership can be renewed at the discretion of the committee.
Honorary
Members who are acknowledged as prominent members of the media community and are appointed by the committee on the understanding that the membership will apply only as long as the honorary member is in the office which enabled him / her to qualify as an honorary member.
Honorary President
The committee will have the right to appoint one person as honorary president of the club for his / her contribution to the journalistic profession or the Press Club’s welfare.
